Breakfast Foods and Criminals

Am I the only one that’s noticed the eerie similarity between breakfast foods (cereals particularly) and the concept of “stealing"? I mean, think about it. We have:

  • Leggo my Eggo - someone’s trying to steal your Eggo waffles, presumably
  • Lucky Charms - the kids are trying to steal the cereal from the leprechaun
  • Fruity Pebbles - Barney is always trying to steal Fred’s fruity pebbles
  • Trix - The “silly rabbit” is always trying to steal the cereal from the kids
  • Cookie Crisp - for a long time they had the cookie crook as the mascot, then changed it to the cookie-stealing wolf who is always trying to steal the cookies

And these are just the one’s I’ve noticed. What other subliminal criminal references are out there? And why isn’t anyone trying to steal my Cheerios? And why is it contained to breakfast foods… or is it? Hmmm…..

Groundhog Day

Am I the only one who finds that Americans have NO sense of moderation? Why is it that we have to take everything to the extreme? It’s like the whole country has OCD. Take Groundhog Day, for example. A furry creature comes out of his hole and the whole country goes nuts. We make movies about it, have clubs you can join, plan celebrations , and of course have things you can buy. There are arts and crafts and tattoosavailable, and even a documentary you can buy by calling the “Groundhog Hotline".

Come on people, do we really need a “Groundhog Hotline?” Wouldn’t our money and time be better spent, oh , I don’t know, maybe housing the poor or feeding the hungry or something? It’s a quaint little custom, and yet another thing that we have managed to obsess about.

(And don’t even get me started on this low-carb crap.)
